Frequently Asked Questions
*How long before my beer will be ready?*
To brew your own fantastic beer takes 2-3 weeks, varying slightly on which kit you choose. It takes around 5 days for the initial brewing process in the fermenting container and then around 2 weeks in the barrel to allow the brew to clear and to develop into a smooth, clean tasting beer.
*Will I need to buy anything else?*
The Micro Brewery Kit contains all the equipment required. There are lots of other accessories available should you wish to get into home brewing in a big way, but to start with our kit provides all the gear that you need to get started. The equipment included with the Micro Brewery will last for many years, all that is required to continue brewing is additional beer kits.
*Are all the beer kits the same and can they be brewed with this equipment?*
Essentially all the beer kits are quite similar, the difference is in the balance and style of ingredients which produces varying beer types. All the 3kg kits contain everything that you need. Kits weighing less than 3kg will need 1kg of sugar adding. Any beer kit can be brewed with this equipment.
*Will the Micro Brewery Kit be packed in one box?*
Yes, the kit is packed into an attractive presentation box. Please note: This is how it is delivered, if you require your kit to be disguised, please send a message to let us know.
*How long does the beer last?*
After your beer has finished brewing it's best to drink it within a month. We provide a pressure barrel with our kit rather than bottles as they can be used for all styles of beer. Barrels are the best way to store Real Ales as they are at their best when lightly carbonated. If the beer is intended to be kept for a long time (up to a year) then bottles can be used, all bottles sold by us are designed to take the pressure of secondary fermentation. We find that customers often like to syphon half the beer into the barrel for drinking straight away and buy a pack of bottles to store the other half to drink in future.
*Will brewing my own beer save me money?*
One of the best advantages of brewing your own beer is the amount of money it will save you. Generally a 40 pint beer kit will cost around

Muntons Gold - Imperial Stout
Home Brew Concentrate - Makes 40 Pints
Many years ago - centuries in fact - it was discovered that the way to brew the best ales and beers was to use only malt, hops, water and yeast in the brewing process. In the 15th Century in Germany this was taken a stage further with the introduction of the Reinheitsgebot - a law prohibiting the use of any ingredients in the brewing process other than these raw materials.
This law stood until only a few years ago when the EEC over-ruled the Reinheitsgebot which they considered to be a barrier to free-trade within Europe! In spite of this the breweries have refused to change their recipes and still brew using only the four magic ingredients - their customers would not be satisfied with anything less, they tell us.
Traditional English ales were brewed originally without hops but tastes change once hops from the Continent were introduced keeping the ale fresh for longer. Beer drinkers gradually developed a taste for the new hopped ales and in the 15th Century the modern tasting English ale was borne. More recently, economic pressure has forced many breweries to introduce cheaper adjuncts into the brewing process. Purists will argue however that the beer quality has suffered because of this and that it is far better to stick to the traditional practices. We at Muntons agree, which is why the Gold Range was developed, a range designed simply to make great beer.
As a commercial malster supplying breweries all over the world, we are in an ideal position to appreciate the quality and styles of malt needed to make the best beers. We have put our knowledge to good use and formulated what we believe to be the best beer kits available anywhere today - with a possible exception of Muntons Premium Gold! Made using only malt, hops, water and yeast, balanced to brew superb beers, modelled on the finest tradition of brewers art.
In keeping with our Gold standard, by using the easy to follow brewing instructions, you will brew beers of the very highest quality - a quality which complies with the 15th Century German purity law - the Reinheitsgebot. Cheers!
About Muntons Gold - Imperial Stout
As Imperial Russia extended its territories into the Baltic States during the early 1780's, Catherine the Great, Empress of all the Russians fell in love with strong British Stout. Imperial Stout captures the essence of this truly classic beer, with its full body, rich black colour and distinctive dry bitterness.
Capped by a smooth, creamy head, it is a brew to be savoured, and enjoyed at its best when served chilled - approximately 5C or 41F

Using the easy to follow instructions, create your own delicious home-made liquors unequalled for their rich flavour.
